Sharron Houston Joy, 69, of Paragould, passed away Thursday at her home. She was a member of New Haven Baptist Church. Sharron retired as the Executive Director of The United Way before it transitioned to become the Greene County Community Fund. She served on numerous boards and committees over the years, and she was also elected as a City Councilwoman for 14 years. Sharron had a passion for Bible studies as she was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. She served as a leader in the local Associational Women's Missionary Union. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, and traveling. Sharron was the daughter of the late James and Gertie Houston. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Cora Crawford and Faye Hester, and brother, Pete Houston.
Sharron is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 51 years, Howard Joy; daughter, Shona Joy (Les) Covington; granddaughter, Joy Victoria Covington; and brother, James Wayne Houston.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-2:30 pm at New Haven Baptist Church. The funeral begins at 2:30 under the direction of Heath Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Pickney officiating. Burial is in Linwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Roy Davenport, Russ Cole, Randall Graves, Darrell Shelton, Jim McMillon, and Ronnie Phipps. Memorials may be sent to the New Haven Baptist Church Youth.
