Rose Artelia Emmaline Benson Loyd was born on June 17, 1935 to Odessa and Luther Benson in Ardmore, Carter, Oklahoma. From her earliest days, she displayed a spirit of self-reliance, love, and insatiable curiosity for life, which continued with her until her final years. At 22 years old, Rose met her future husband, Audie Loyd, when he was attending school in Oklahoma City with the Civil Aeronautics Administration, later known as the FAA. They were married on November 20, 1957, and raised four children; Don, Dona, Richard, and Patricia. In 1962, they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, while living in New Orleans, LA. Rose's unwavering faith in Christ and her desire to be of service were two of the most significant defining attributes of her life, together with her unwavering commitment to her children. She enjoyed working with the youth, especially in the writing and presentation of the annual "Road Show” competitions. She was also one of the few women selected to become a certified Boy Scout Master, with her love of the outdoors and teaching survival skills. While her
husband fulfilled a two year assignment in air traffic control in the Panama Canal Zone, she served as a District Girl’s Camp Leader, organizing the first bilingual Girl’s Camp in the Panama District. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching others from Emergency Preparedness to Baking Bread. Her contributions, along with many others, played a role in promoting her church’s visibility. Rose devoted her life to making sure her children succeeded in every way. Their youngest pursued a career as a Flight Attendant, traveling throughout the world, and their other children excelled in the medical field. Three of their children also served two-year, foreign missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Rose's expertise in genealogical research was truly exceptional, as she had meticulously traced her and her husband's family lineages. Her
passion for family history was something that she actively instilled in her children and grandchildren, ensuring that everyone was well-versed in the stories of her ancestors who had served during the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. In their golden years, Rose and Audie. answered the call to serve as Family History Missionaries for The Church, furthering their desire to help others who were working on their own family lines. Rose's passion for learning and her unwavering dedication to expanding her knowledge was a defining aspect of her character. She carried this same thirst for knowledge into her relationship with her grandchildren, helping them to fully realize their own talents and potential. Her impact was felt across every facet of her children's and grandchildren's lives, inspiring them to remain engaged and constantly striving towards personal growth and development. She was truly one of a kind, possessing a unique blend of qualities that were matched
