Ronnie Gerald Register

February 9, 1944 — February 6, 2015

Ronnie Gerald Register passed away on February 6, 2015. He suffered an aortic aneurysm in 2005; however, God blessed him with 10 more years of life. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on February 9, 1944. Ronnie, the second of five children, grew up primarily in Port Allen, LA, and graduated from Port Allen High School in 1962. He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy in 1970. He was a self-made man. He put himself through college and started many other businesses on his own. He spent many hours dreaming, drawing, studying, networking, and researching anything for which he had a passion. Ronnie was a multi-talented, one of a kind, spirit. Ronnie was a stellar athlete, setting state records in track in high school, as well as playing basketball for Nichols State and LSU. He yodeled on air at the local radio station and was an eternal artist at heart with an amazing eye for detail and hand for beautiful sketches. Ronnie had a beautiful singing voice, a mind for brilliant ideas, and a personality full of charm. He had a presence that commanded attention and, at the same time, always made others feel welcome and at ease. Ronnie met his wife, Loretta Oar Register, in college. They married on August 30, 1968, which was also Loretta’s birthday. They were married for 45 years. It is hard to mention Ronnie without Loretta in the same sentence, as they shared so much. Ronnie and Loretta were a bit of opposites in life--he the risk taker, she the safe player. Together, they blended into a committed balancing act. Ronnie, while always a Christian, became dedicated to his spiritual life during his marriage to Loretta. He had a devotion to St. Mary that held a special place in his heart. Ronnie and Loretta have 4 children that have a sprinkling of each of their personalities in them. Ronnie started the first of many business ventures with his pharmacy degree. Ronnie and Loretta went on to own several pharmacies and businesses over the years. Even though he had a great business mind, his passion was his art. He had always dreamed of being a great artist. When the opportunity came to him to develop land, he was able to use both his business sense & his artistry together. He was truly his happiest developing Register Estates. Ronnie used his artistic eye to develop the land as well as the homes. He named the streets in the first phase after his children, his grandchildren, and his favorite artists. All who knew Ronnie, often called Ron, would say he never met a stranger. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and loved Loretta dearly. Ronnie had a giving heart, almost to a fault at times. He had a love for great food, especially when it came to his sweet tooth. He would often order desserts for everyone but would end up eating all of it himself. Ron loved to travel, dream of places to visit, and create new business ideas, even in his last days. Ron is survived by his wife, Loretta Oar Register; his daughter, Kelli Register of Jonesboro; his son, Chad Register and his wife, Amy, of Paragould; his son, Craig Register of Doniphan, Missouri; and his son, Cory Register of Paragould. Ron is also survived by his grandchildren, Reed, Grant, Mackenzie, and Ross Register; his mother, Jean Waits; and his siblings, Stanley Register, Dawn Grove, Jimmy Waits, and Deride Smith. Preceding him in death was his father, Jerry Register. A Rosary will be prayed from 6-6:30 pm at Heath Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the Rosary from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday at 1 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
