Ronald Norris Norman died at 12:40 pm on October 12, 2023 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Lawrence Co., AR. He was born August 12, 1948 in Paragould, AR. He was survived by three brothers: Weldon Norman of Amelia, VA; Larry Norman of Jonesboro, AR and Mitchell Norman of Bedford, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Keel Norman and his parents Berlas and Marjorie Norman of Greene Co., AR.
He was a graduate of Lafe High School in Greene Co., AR; Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasaw, OK; Tennessee State College in Memphis; and Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He was an ordained minister serving as a missionary in British Columbia, Canada and as a pastor of various churches in Washington and Arkansas. He taught high school at Stanford and Paragould public schools. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1970 to 1976, including a year-long tour of duty on Okinawa.
He had an active interest in local history and genealogy, researching and publishing a number of articles on the subjects. Also, he authored two novels (Little Man and French Roots) and numerous unpublished poems. Having the ‘gift of gab’, he loved to tell stories.
He loved horseback riding, plowing with mules and basically living a life style out of the early 1900’s.
Norris and Carolyn did not have any children but he thought the world of his nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 16, 2023, from 10-11 AM at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 11 AM with Tadd Fore and Rev. Ferrel Duffel officiating.. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery (Greene Co.) next to his loving wife Carolyn of 40 years and near his maternal grandparents and paternal great grandparents. Pallbearers are Steve Fore, Tadd Fore, Bray Brooks, Weldon Norman, William Mahan, and Richard Taylor.
