Reverend Carroll Webster Gibson

September 26, 1928 — May 6, 2015

Rev. Carroll Gibson, 86, of Paragould died on Wednesday at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Carroll was a retired Baptist Minister and a member of the Blue Cross General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Gibson and his parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Emma Downs Gibson. Brother Carroll attended Williams Baptist College 1946-48, graduated from Quachita Baptist College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950, graduated from Golden Gate Seminary with a Masters of Divinity in 1965. He was ordained by Clark’s Chapel at the request of Finch Baptist Church on September 16, 1945, he was a pastor in Dierks, Arkansas in 1949. Carroll went to California to be a church starter in 1953. He pastored at the First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, CA, First Southern Baptist Church in Brea, CA 1958-1960, Hillcrest Baptist Church in Richmond, CA 1960-1965 and Rose Drive Baptist Church in Yorba Linda, CA 1965-1970. He was Director of Missions for the Greene County Baptist Association from 1970-1987 resigning as director on October 27, 1987. He was President of Arkansas Campers on Missions with the Home Mission Board in 1987, “Director of Missions” of the year, Greene County, Arkansas 1982-1983. He was a honorary lifetime member of the Paragould Civitan Club and a Founder/organizer of the Mission Outreach program in Paragould. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Gibson of Paragould, his children, David (Mary) Gibson of Australia, Dan (Deborah) Gibson of Alpharetta, GA, Susan Gibson of Brunswick, GA, Jeanne (Ken) Dial of Evans, GA and John (Susan) Gibson of Medina, OH; step children, Kenny (June) Pegg of Paragould and Beverly (Fred) Dowless of Jonesboro; sister, Ruth Gill of St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren, Molly and Michael Gibson, Aaron Hollis, Amy Hollis Brown, Nathaniel, Matthew and Brandon Dial, April Gibson Mertens, Erik and Alex Gibson; step-grandchildren, Laura Pegg, Stephanie (Rob) Myers, Kara (David) McElyea. 19 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:30-1:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Revs. Royce Schanda, Raymond Atwood and Jeffery Dial officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Nathan, Matthew and Brandon Dial, Aaron Hollis, Eric and Alex Gibson. Memorials may be made to Blue Cross General Baptist Church in Paragould or Mission Outreach, 901 E. Lake Street, Paragould, AR 72450.
