Retha Lawana Wood, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on July 19, 1931, in Bruceton, Tennessee, Retha filled her life with love, joy, and creativity. She was a shining light in the lives of those who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Retha married the love of her life, Henry Wood, on October 16, 1954, in Angola, Indiana. Together, they built a life filled with warmth and companionship. Retha was a devoted mother to her children, and she created a wealth of memories cherished by family and friends.
An avid journaler, Retha documented her thoughts and experiences daily, leaving behind over 200 journals that reflect her life's journey and the love she had for those around her. She found joy in simple pleasures, from sewing in her younger years to singing rhymes and creating whimsical songs that would often fill her home with laughter and joy.
Retha had a passion for baking, particularly cookies and cobbler, which she would generously share with her loved ones. She found delight in watching Hallmark movies and listening to Gospel music, filling her days with stories of love and faith. Retha also had a fondness for nature, often taking the time to watch hummingbirds as they flitted about in her garden.
Retha is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gerald) Moore of Paragould; sons, Keny Dale Wood and Keith Allen Wood, both of Michigan; grandchildren, David (Kristen) Moore, Josh (Jessica) Danaho, and Tiffany (Rock) Hill; and great grandchildren, Ayden and Grayson Moore, Alyssa and Bryson Danaho, and Mariah and Jade Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Allie Douglas; husband, Henry Wood; grandson, Christopher Wood; brothers, O'Neal, O.J., and Ray Douglas; and sister, Oneda Stepp.
In honor of Retha's life and legacy, a graveside service will be held at Greene County Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a remarkable woman who touched many lives with her kindness and her zest for life. Retha will be laid to rest, ever remembered for her vibrant spirit and unwavering love.
As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the joy she brought to those around her. Retha Lawana Wood will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
