Paul Milton Smith of Paragould, Arkansas passed away March 6, 2019 in Jonesboro, AR surrounded by his family. He was born in Sterling, IL, on July 14, 1953 to John M. and Jean Smith. Paul known throughout Greene County as “The Backhoe Man,” operated Paul M. Smith Backhoe Service for over 38 years. Paul Milton who was lovingly called “PMS” adored all his many friends and acquaintances. He never met a stranger as many people put it, and was always quick to make sure a child who loved equipment got the chance to climb on his backhoe and go for a ride. He loved his 20 acres and spent many weekends working on projects and always keeping busy. He loved going to Lake Norfork to ski and enjoyed fun times with friends and family. Paul will be remembered as a person who cared and put others first, and for his love for his children. Paul was preceded in death by his father, John M. Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Smith of Paragould, children Justin Paul Smith of Colorado, Audra Faith (Jerrod) Brown, and their mother Joy Faith Smith all of Paragould. Siblings are Debbie Thompson of Paragould, Rebecca Pope of Eureka Springs, Pam (Todd) Fouts of Hornersville, MO, Robin (Carey) Johnson of Memphis, TN. Paul is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren Lawson and Catherine Claire Brown.
The family would love to receive friends at the visitation at Heath Funeral Home on Sunday, March 10th from 5-7p.m., a celebration of his life will be held March 11th at 10 a.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Brother John Fleming officiating, with a final Backhoe Procession to Woods Chapel Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice along with the staff of Greene Acres Nursing Home.
