Nola Mae Thompson Ussery

January 1, 1934 — May 28, 2012

Nola Mae Thompson Ussery, 78, of Paragould, went to be with her Lord, Monday, May 28, 2012, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Nola was born January 1, 1934, the youngest of three children, to the late Oral and Paola (Stallcup) Yates. Nola attended Draughon's Business College in Memphis, TN after graduating with honors in 1952 from Oak Grove High School located just north of Paragould, AR. She married Reverend Glen Thompson in 1953 and performed the duties of wife of a pastor-evangelist, overseeing a church office and various church related duties including teaching classes for The Healing Word Tabernacle, Inc. and assisting in making radio broadcasts. Nola was an ordained minister and well versed in the Bible. She has written hundreds of religious songs and poems. Soon after Reverend Thompson passed away in 1975, she acquired her real-estate and insurance license and purchased Southern Insurance and Best Realty of Paragould, which she owned and operated until selling. After the sale of her business, she continued to manage several owned rental properties as well as conduct the business of The Harvest Time Church and Healing Word Tabernacle until March 2007 when she was suddenly stricken with a massive stroke. Nola was married to L.C. Ussery from 1985 until she departed this earth. She has always been a loving and attentive mother and wife as well as a caring daughter and sister. In addition to her many responsibilities throughout her entire life, Nola was always selfless, continually placing the needs of her friends, husband and family above her own desires and wishes. She devoted her life to helping and servicing others. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha "Debbie" and David Kelm of North Little Rock; sister and brother-in-law: Lenora and Bob Bunting of Oaktown, IN; sister-in-law: Cathryn Yates of Paragould; granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Shannon and Matt Ford; great granddaughters: Maggie Ryan Ford and Molly Deborah Ford, all of Hampton, GA. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 22 years, Glen Thompson, second husband, L.C. Ussery, brother, Jerry "J.W." Yates and her parents, Oral and Paola Yates. The family wishes to thank all devoted caregivers that gave loving and tender care during Nola’s illness and friends and loved ones that kept her and her family in their prayers. The family will receive friends, Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Heath Colonial Chapel with Matt Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Cemetery in Pocahontas. Pallbearers are Wayne Stallcup, Winston Yates, David Yates, Phillip Yates, Russell Stallcup and Mike Tyner. Memorials may be sent to the Greene County Relay for Life in memory of Gail Yates Brewer and Nola Thompson Ussery. Sign guestbook at www.heathfuneralhome.com.
