Mary Smith Johnson

Mary Smith Johnson of Paragould died Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR. Born in Beech Grove, she was a graduate of Arkansas State University and was a teacher in Greene County for 40 years. She was a member of Paragould First United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of the Greene County Retired Teachers Association. She was a volunteer at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Auxillary for many years. She retired from Greene County Tech High School in 1985, having taught there for 30 years, Beech Grove High School 9 years and Lafe High School for one year.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Troy Smith (they were married for 44 years), her second husband, Tony Johnson, and her parents Allie and Luther North.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherrill Bufford (Johnny) of Madison, WI and Debbie Henson (Colonel) of Paragould; three step-daughters, Pam Mitchell (Randal), Kim Johnson, and Cindy (Tim) Richards of Plano, TX, one step-son, Michael (Jackie) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Mandy (Kory) Randleman of Paragould; three grandsons, Matt Bufford of Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Jeremy (Jennifer) Bufford of Madison, WI and Dustin (Tiffany) Henson of Paragould; four step-grandchildren, Haley and Will Richards of Plano, TX, and Katharine and Jake Johnson of Charlotte, NC; four great-grandchildren, Avery and Allie Randleman and Molly Henson of Paragould and Jameson Bufford of Madison, WI; and one step-great-grandchild Presley Farhat of Plano, Tx.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 6 at 10:00 A.M. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Dane Womack officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:00.

Persons who wish to leave memorials are asked to consider Paragould First United Methodist Church, Chateau on the Ridge in Paragould, or Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

The family requests that public consider wearing a mask and practice social distancing at the graveside.
