Mary Minerva Brightwell, a beloved member of the Marmaduke community, was born on May 31, 1930, in Marmaduke. She peacefully departed from this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Minerva was the cherished daughter of Armetus and Gladys Kearns Nicholas, growing up in a close-knit family and receiving an education that allowed her to embrace the values of hard work and dedication. As a devoted homemaker, she poured her heart into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. She excelled in the arts of cooking and sewing, crafting exquisite quilts that wrapped her loved ones in warmth and love. These quilts, lovingly made, will forever serve as a reminder of her caring spirit.
Above all, Minerva was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her love knew no bounds, and she was known for her gentle demeanor and uplifting presence. The words of affection she shared with her family were untainted by negativity; it was said that no one ever heard her speak ill of another. Her unwavering support and encouragement will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Minerva is survived by her beloved son, Steve Brightwell; caring grandson, Adam Brightwell; and adoring great granddaughter, Holly Brightwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Willard Brightwell; son, Joseph Brightwell; and brother, Denver Nicholas. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue through her family, who carry her love in their hearts.
Funeral services will be held in her honor on Friday, January 3, 2025. The day will begin with a public visitation at 12:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM, culminating in her burial at New Friendship Cemetery.
