Lurvine E. Herbert

Lurvine E. Herbert, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 27,2 008. Mrs. Herbert, originally from Walcott, Arkansas, made Houston her home since 1939 and was an active member of Baptist Temple for over 65 years. At Baptist Temple, she devotedly worked with children and youth for many years and her home was always a gathering place for family and friends. Mrs. Herbert loved her Lord, her family, and her church, and she will be greatly missed by the many who loved her. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gifford J. Herbert, and two children, Gifford Robin Herbert and Gloria Jean Herbert. She is survived by son, Carl Edward Herbert and wife, Gail of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Jane Elizabeth Neighbors and husband Bill, of Houston; brother Bob Smith and wife Gussie of Fayetteville; one grandson and 4 greanddaughter; 6 great grandsons and one great granddaughter; one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the procession leaves the funeral home at 12:00 PM for a graveside service at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
