Lottie Balk Brown

Lottie Balk Brown was born February 24, 1923 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Harry and Ida Balk. She attended high school at Demarest High School in Hoboken and served in the Marine Corp during World War II. After the war was over. she enrolled at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on the GI bill. Lottie participated in a multitude of activities throughout her life, some of the most notable taking place at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Arkansas where she performed in the Belles and Beaux fundraiser and helped found the volunteer program. She also served as the memorial chairman for the Cancer Society for many years and served as Volunteer Director at AMMC, during which time she was awarded a Lifetime Membership. Among her many interests, Lottie enjoyed playing bridge, creating elaborate cross-stitch, and watching professional tennis. Some of her favorite memories were attending the Wimbledon and French Open Grand Slam tennis matches.

Lottie is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Judge Gerald Brown; parents, Harry and Ida Balk, three brothers and one sister, all of whom were veterans of World War II or Korea, and several relatives who perished in the Holocaust. She is survived by her sons, Ron Brown, of Oak Island, North Carolina, and Cliff Brown, of Jacksonville, Oregon; her daughter, Bunny Brown Lee, of Paragould, Arkansas; granddaughters, Lisy Brown McKinnon, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Emily Lee, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Anna Caroline Lee, of Paragould, Arkansas; and great-grandchildren, Audrey and Edward McKinnon, of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Attn: Tribute Program, P.O.
