Lonzo Virgil (L.V.) Smith, age 92, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Manila
Nursing Center. He was born June 14, 1927, in Walnut Ridge, AR. He was the son of the late James and Millie Smith.
L.V. was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was raised and lived in Lawrence County until 1970 when he moved his family to Light, AR. He loved camping and fishing with his brothers after his retirement. He was of the Christian faith and he
especially loved the Pruett Chapel church family and attending gospel singing with his wife. L.V. was a proficient speller. He won the Lawrence County Spelling Bee in 1941 and traveled to Memphis, TN, and participated in the Mid-South Spelling Bee.
L.V. was preceded in death by his brothers J.W., C.H., and sisters Pearl, Opal and Jewel, and daughter in law Mary Francis Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years Lugene Smith. Sons and daughter in laws,
Gary Smith, Randall (Brenda) Smith, Keith (Gina) Smith and Terry (Melanie) Smith. One brother, Elton, sisters Ruby and Barbara. Grandchildren, Kim Soper, Jennifer Petty, Lori Garrett, Sarah Green, Stephen Smith, Benjamin Smith, Eric Smith, Josh Smith, Meredith Smith, Seth Smith, Natalie Parsley and Clay Smith. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
There will be a private graveside service at Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen, Ben, Eric, Josh, Seth and Clay Smith.
