Lewis "Carroll" Worley, a cherished grandfather and great grandfather, born on January 29, 1940, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, surrounded by love. He lived a life defined by kindness, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his community. Carroll is now reunited with his beloved wife, Rachel, whom he married on March 7, 1959, and who predeceased him just three short weeks prior. Together they embodied love and partnership, a testament to the enduring power of a shared life.
Carroll served in the National Guard for 8 years. He then dedicated over 35 years of his life working as a postal carrier in Paragould for the United States Postal Service. Known affectionately as "Worley Bird" by his coworkers, he greeted every day with a smile, always making sure that delivering mail was a personal mission rather than just a job. He is remembered for many selfless acts of service during his time as a mail carrier, including giving the shoes off his feet to a man on his route who had lost everything in a fire. His compassion extended far beyond his postal route; Carroll exemplified what it meant to be a caring friend and neighbor. He compassionately took care of an ailing neighbor for many years, all while taking care of his wife.
A devoted family man, Carroll cherished the time spent with his family. Papaw's cookie jar was a treasure trove filled with Oreo's, and his two great-grandchildren were always eager to grab a few Oreo's on each visit.
Carroll found great pleasure in the simple things in life. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He often sat in his shop, the air filled with the sounds of old country and bluegrass music, indulging in what he called his "break time." Usually, he had a cold Mellow Yellow in his hand during this time. For leisure, he enjoyed seeking out bargains that brought him joy, particularly from yard sales and flea markets. He was an avid collector of car and truck replicas. He also enjoyed gathering pecans from his cherished pecan trees. But most of all, he enjoyed watching Lawson and Layla playing in his back yard, along with their special friends, Max and Caleb Hardin.
Carroll is survived by his son, Gary Worley; granddaughter, Lauren (Justin) Roberts; great-grandson, Lawson Roberts; great-granddaughter, Layla Roberts; and sister, Donna Sue Payne. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Ula Worley; loving wife of 65 years, Rachel Worley; and his beloved daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Jetton.
A funeral service honoring Carroll will be held at Heath Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the service, Carroll will be laid to rest at Linwood Cemetery next to his beautiful bride.
As we celebrate the life of Lewis Carroll Worley, let us remember him not with sadness, but with the joy and warmth he brought to each of us. His legacy of kindness and generosity will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us all to "not get nervous," but to face life's challenges with his signature spirit and resilience.
The family wishes to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Noel and the staff of 3E at AMMC for their love and care for both him and Rachel over the last couple of months.
