Leona Hill Yates, 96, of Paragould, was called to her Heavenly home Saturday, March 14, 2015, surrounded by her loving children. She was born March 22, 1918, to John and Stella Hill. Leona was married to Samuel Dortch Yates for 59 years until he was called home in 1993. She is survived by six children, J.D. (Patsy) Yates, Charlotte Lasley, Thelma Stanfill, Jerry (Jenny) Yates, Don (Candi) Yates, and Doris (Gary) Clement; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons; two sons-in-law, Murel Lasley and Leland Stanfill; and one daughter-in-law JoAnn Yates. Leona spent her entire life caring for others above herself. Once her six children were grown, she went to work as a nurse's assistant for Dr. Rodman in Leachville for 14 years. Leona then went on to work as a dietitian for the Senior Center for another 12 years, before retiring at age 75. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and made over 60 quilts for her children and grandchildren. Leona was a very Godly lady who was an active member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church until a stroke at age 89 left her unable to walk. At that point she became a resident of Belle Meade Nursing Facility where she was well cared for and loved by all who live and work there. Her family will miss her contagious smile and laughter and the way she always conducted herself with grace. She lived a full, happy life and was a true witness of character and love. Family will receive friends from 11-1 Tuesday, March 17th at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 with Bro. Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland. Pallbearers are Rick Ward, Keith Yates, Dane Lasley, Curtis Clement, Damon Lasley, Dr. William Buckley, John Yates, and Bailey Wells. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Yates and Harley Yates. Online registerbook: www.heathfuneralhome.com.
