John Elijah Hunt

November 22, 1948 — July 27, 2020

JJohn Elijah Hunt, 71, passed from this life on July 27, 2020 in Paragould, Arkansas.

John was born November 22, 1948 in Ada, Oklahoma to Rufus and Lorena Hunt. John moved to Antlers, Oklahoma while in grade school. John joined the U.S. Marine Corp on May 2, 1966. He served two tours in Vietnam until his injury in 1969.

While he was stationed in Millington, Tennessee recovering from his injuries he met his future wife. John and Janis McDaniel were married June 17, 1970 in Memphis, Tennessee. They just celebrated their fifth anniversary this year.

After he got out of the service, he lived in Memphis, Tennessee and Texas City, Texas before moving back to Antlers, where he lived until his health began to deteriorate. At that time he moved to Paragould, Arkansas.

John loved to share his experience in Vietnam with anyone he came in contact with, sometimes more than once. John was lucky enough to be able to make a trip back to Vietnam with a group of Marines in the '90s. He enjoyed going to reunions and swapping stories with others he served with. John's greatest joy was knowing he served his country and would have done it again if he could.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lorena Bell Kirby Hunt and his sister, Belinda Carol Hunt.

He is survived by his wife, Janis of Paragould, Arkansas; his son Clint of Fort Walden Beach, Florida; and three grandchildren, Justin, Madison (Maddie) and Paisley.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 3 at Antlers City Cemetery in Antlers, OK.
