Joel "Joe" Norman Hayes, 80, of Paragould, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. He was born on February 20, 1944, to the late Bill and Goldie Purdue Hayes. A man of faith, Joe was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a man of many passions and talents. An avid golfer, duck hunter, and deer hunter, Joe found solace and joy in the great outdoors. He looked forward to his trips to Colorado where he would hunt mule deer. His love for adventure led Joe and his wife, Suzanne, to explore the lower 48 states by RV, creating cherished memories along the way.
For 25 years, Joe dedicated himself to the Paragould Fire Department, serving his community with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. He also spent 23 years at Sears Tire & Battery Shop, where he retired as the manager and his hard work and expertise left a lasting impact.
In the greatest journey of his life, Joe was joined by his beloved bride, Suzanne, with whom he shared a love that spanned over 60 years, a testament to their enduring bond and unwavering commitment to one another. His presence will also be deeply missed by his family, including his brothers, Richard (Paula) Hayes of Jackson, Mississippi, Phillip (Teresa) Hayes of Paragould, and Bill Hayes of Paragould; sisters, Shelby O'Dell of Cherokee Village, Lucille (Wayne) Jackson of Paragould, Rebekah (Bobby) Byram of Williford, and Gwenda (David) Tipton of Grenada, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Karen (Bill) Hacker Harding of Paris, Tennessee and Carolyn Hayes of Paragould; numerous nephews and nieces; and many, many close friends including the Buck family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lavaughan, Jeremiah, and Jacob Hayes.
A visitation will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 11 AM until 1 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kirk Neugebauer officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens. The Paragould Fire Department will serve as Honorary Pallbearers, paying tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving others.
