Joe Curtis Smith

Joe Curtis (Curt) Smith, age 87, of Paragould, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Rector Nursing Home.
Curt was born, February 7, 1929 in the Cotton Belt Community to M.A. and Edith Smith, where he grew up on a farm. At the age of 19, he went to work for the county as a Road Grader operator. After a few years, he solely began working with a Bulldozer. Later he and a brother formed Smith Brothers Construction, building stock ponds, terracing and land clearing, while during his career, cleared thousands of acres in Greene, Clay, Randolph, and Craighead counties. Curt retired in 2012. His passions were deer hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and M.E. (Junior) Smith, and a young daughter, Danita Smith. He is survived by his wife, Sue Smith of the home; two sons, Darrell (Debbie) Smith of Paragould and Danny Smith of the home; four daughters, Darla Smith, Dana (Eiland) Wilson, Deanna (Randy) Hudson, all of Paragould, and Daronda Smith of the home; grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Smith of Jonesboro, Jennifer (Stacy) Garner, Jeremy (Karey) Rowland, Barkley (Natalie) Rowland, Ashlyn Apple, Kasey Reddick, Breanne (Dex) Gardner, all of Paragould; step grandchildren, Tyler (Courtney) Hudson of Nevada and Emma Hudson of Cabot; great grandchildren, Nate Clayton, Trey (Katie) Garner, Logan Garner, Madi Smith, Lexi Smith and Emilie Gardner; great-great grandchildren, Maddox Garner and Gracie Garner; brothers, Bob Smith, David Smith, and Donald Ray Smith, all of Paragould; sisters, Wilma Barr, Loretta (Dale) Fuller, all of Paragould, and Carolyn Rowland of St. Charles, MO.
Visitation is Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 am at Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ with Larry McFadden officiating. There will be a private family burial ceremony at Memorial Gardens cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Kenny Smith, Keith Smith, Jeff Smith, Jeremy Rowland, Barkley Rowland and Ronnie Barr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Education Fund and the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.
