Jimmy Glen Vassar

September 21, 1951 — February 4, 2018

Jimmy Glen Vassar, 66, of Paragould, made his journey to Heaven surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on Sunday, February 4. Jimmy was born in Leachville and was of the Baptist faith. Jimmy was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam era for 9 years and finished his Army career in the Arkansas National Guard where he served for 14 years. After retiring from the military, Jimmy worked for Garlock Rubber Technologies. In his spare time, he was a proud member of the Greene County Rescue Squad where he served 27 years volunteering for those in his community. Serving his community and his country were just a few of his many accomplishments, but being a father was by far the greatest. Jimmy was a beloved husband to his wife, Debra of 36 years and a very proud father to his children, Kerri and Kyle. There were several others who were touched by the good will of Jimmy's soul and looked to him as a father. His friendliness and kindness to all people and his devotion and love for his children and grandchildren is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul.

Jimmy was the son of the late Tommy and Veda Vassar. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Vassar; step father, Odell Holsclaw; and brother-in-law, Rayburn Faulkner.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Vassar; daughter, Kerri (Sebastian) Zollinger; son, Kyle (Whitney) Vassar; sisters, Pat (Keith) Steele, Judy Faulkner, and Pam (Jimmy) Hester; granddaughters, Lilly and SueAnna; fur baby, Noah; several nieces, nephews, and other family members; and numerous friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8pm at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday at 11am at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. William Vassar officiating. Burial is in Shiloh Cemetery. Pallbearers are Curtis Davenport, Michael Miner, Brad Smith, Tony Stubblefield, Blaine Nunn, Tim Watson, and Butch Heath. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Greene County Rescue Squad. Please send memorials to the Greene County Rescue Squad, 405 S. 6th Street, Paragould, AR 72450 or Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, 900 W. Kingshighway, Paragould, AR 72450.
