Jay Will Hicks, Sr., 86, of Beech Grove went to be with the Lord Monday at St. Bernard's Medical Center. He was the son of the late EC (Coleman) and Bessie Breckenridge Hicks. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Hicks; sister, Janiel Harrington; and granddaughter, Kymberlee Jae Hicks.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, the love of his life, Betty; daughter, Marcia (David) Hibbard, Pocahontas; sons, Terry (Samira) Hicks, St Louis, MO, and Rev. Jay Will, Jr. (Kim) Hicks, Beech Grove; grandsons, Terry and Levi Hicks and Lee Hibbard; granddaughter, Serena Hibbard; great- granddaughter, Mattie Hicks; and great-grandsons, Jimmy Hicks and David and Daniel Hibbard.
Jay Will was loved and respected by a host of people. He served as Deacon at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church. He also served 21 years (the record) on the Greene County Tech School Board, served on Library Board, Greene Acres Nursing Home Board and Quorum Court.
Visitation is Tuesday, 6-8 pm at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral service is Wednesday, 1:00 pm at Heath Colonial Chapel with Kenneth Taylor, Rev. Jay Will Hicks, Jr. and Terry Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are J.J. Needham, Marty Needham, Lonnie Holloway, Ken Jackson, Stephen Rollins, Randy Joiner, Tony Parnell, and Doyle Summitt. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Lovelady, James Needham, Bill Wagner, Allen Summers, Charles Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Tom Garrett, Les Crow, and Stan Hunt. Lasting memorials may be made to Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.
