James Kenneth Hamilton, 87, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Mr. Hamilton was born November 17, 1929 in Paragould to Lois and Dovie Hamilton. He was a former co-owner of Hamilton Hardware of Paragould. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Upon graduation from Arkansas State, he worked as a poultry inspector in Bentonville, Arkansas. Returning to Paragould, he worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In 1967, he purchased a hardware store on Pruett Street in Paragould and operated it for 31 years with his wife, Jean Hamilton.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon and also on various committees and teaching positions. He also served on the City Beautiful Commission and as a member of the Uptown Business Association.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Venus Hamilton and David E. Hamilton, of Paragould; and one granddaughter, Sarah Hamilton of Little Rock. He is also survived by his three brothers, Jerry Hamilton, Jimmy Mack (Judy) Hamilton, and Jack (Jackie) Hamilton all of Paragould; aunt, Jane Holifield of Rector; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life of 62 years, Jean.
Visitation is Sunday evening from 6-8 at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral service is Monday at 10 AM at Heath Colonial Chapel with Dr. Tony Cherry and Rev. Joe Marsden officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Please send memorials to First Baptist Church in Paragould.
