Hebert Glenn Jones, 85, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2019, in his favorite Lazy Boy, in Trego Wisconsin.
Herb was born on June 25, 1934, in Mt. Vernon IL, the son of the now late Howard Edger and Ora Opal (Beaman) Jones. He went to Osburn, a one room school, through the 8th grade then went through 9th grade in Mt. Vernon High School.
Herb quit school to go to work to help the family. He worked various jobs, farming, Apple orchid, and Ford Motors in Chicago. In 1957 he was drafted. He served two years in Germany as a medic. After discharged on February 14th he later married his sweetheart Fern Ireen (Henn) Pemberton on July 24, 1959. They resided in Mendota for a short time then bought a home in La Moille, IL. Herb worked at Conco, Inc. where he retired as a welder and moved to Arkansas in 1977. Arriving in Paragould he bought a Texico gas station, which he owned for two years. Upon selling it he went to work for Peerless as a welder for seventeen years then retired.
After he retired he spent many of his hours in his shop building woodworking and in his garden. He was well known for his green thumb. People came from miles to buy his produce. People even looked to him for planting advice.
Fern preceded Herb in death on January 8, 2002. He continued living alone and enjoying his grandkids, great grandkids and friends.
In March 2019 Herb went to live with his daughter, Terry, in Wisconsin. He enjoyed his garden beds on the deck, watching the birds, bear and deer running through the yard.
Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend. He will be remembered as a great role model for honesty and trustworthiness.
Herb is survived by his brother, Jerry Jones; sister, Patricia (Norb) Chrzanowski; daughter, Theresa (Scott) Woodruff; seven grandchildren, Robert Pemberton, Laura Colton, Clint (Jennifer) Pemberton, Brian Shelhorn, Brandon Shelhorn, Katrina (Tony) Christian and Clarissa Harder; fourteen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Eugene Jones and Jackie K. Jones; one son, Robert Pemberton and one daughter, Mona Gay Shelhorn.
Visitation is Thursday night at Heath Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Strope officiating. Burial will follow at Pruett's Chapel cemetery. To leave a lasting memorial, please consider the VA.
