Gwendolyn Fahr

February 27, 1921 — October 8, 2024

Mrs. Gwendolyn Fahr, 103, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication. Born and raised in Greene County on February 27, 1921, she was a proud graduate of Marmaduke High School, and it was there that she laid the foundation for a life rich in family, faith, and service.

On a joyous day in May 1941, she married Dr. Robert Fahr, the love of her life. A talented beautician in her early years, Gwendolyn transitioned into the role of a devoted homemaker to raise her children with care and tenderness. Her love for cooking was well-known. Every Sunday morning before church, she would fry chicken. As the family returned home, Gwendolyn would make the gravy and fixins to complete the delicious meal. She would also make apple pies from their apple tree and put them in the freezer. Every time one of her kids came to visit, she would take the pie out of the freezer to enjoy. These occasions remain cherished memories for her loved ones.

Mrs. Fahr had a passion for gardening, tending to flowers that attracted birds and butterflies, growing herbs, and preserving the vegetables her husband cultivated. She found joy in simple pleasures, from solving daily crossword puzzles to playing in Bridge Club with her husband and friends and engaging in social dinner clubs with close friends. Gwendolyn loved chocolate, and she was known for keeping fun-size snickers to give to any guest that visited her. A lost art, Mrs. Fahr always sent handwritten notes and cards to people she knew. This continued until the last year of her life. A dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Paragould, she shared her faith through teaching Sunday School and active participation within her congregation.

Gwendolyn was said to be the best mother in the world. She was a shining example of a loving and compassionate person, emphasizing the importance of kindness and thoughtfulness to all. She demonstrated these attributes to everyone she knew throughout her entire life, and she instilled these characteristics in her children.

Her spirit of generosity and warmth will live on in the hearts of her surviving children, Gwen (Ron) Mills of New Braunfels, Texas, Celia (Mike) Harkey of Little Rock, Bob (Laura) Fahr of Conway, and Michael (Beth) Fahr of Conway; grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Andrew, Alex, Emily, and Jacob; seven great grandchildren; and the many lives she touched along the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nancy Elizabeth Atnip; husband, Dr. Robert Fahr; sister, Lena Sue; and brothers, Logan and Gwyn.

A celebration of Mrs. Fahr's life will be held at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with a public visitation starting at 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm with Dr. Tony Cherry officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. In honor of Mrs. Fahr, please send memorials to First Baptist Church in Paragould.

In honoring her memory, we gather to reflect on a life well-lived, a spirit well-loved, and a legacy that will forever endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing Gwendolyn Fahr.
