Frances Roberta Hessling was born September 28, 1932 in Lafe, Arkansas. She went to be with the Lord at her home on February 5, 2021 at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 8 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Luther and Flora Archibald; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Hurchel and Morie Archibald, and Leon and Earnesteen Archibald; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Marjorie and Malcolm Turner and Elberta and Earl Brown; ex-husband, George (Doc) Hessling.
Surviving her are her daughter, Beverly Lee; her son and daughter-in-law, George (Stan) and Carolyn Hessling; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Marcy Archibald; sister and brother-in-law, Dianna and Michael Carson. She has four grandchildren, Jarrod, Andrea, Christopher and Tasha; ten great grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Joshua, Devin, Nicholas, Cora, Kendall, Annabelle, Miranda, and Blake; and one great-great-granddaughter, Briella. She is also survived by 103 nieces and nephews, and a multitude of other family members and friends.
Roberta lived in Cahokia, Illinois and St. Ann, Missouri most of her adult life. She worked hard from her childhood in the cotton patch until her retirement at age 75. She was the only woman foreman at Lincoln Engineering and after retiring there, worked at the Forest Haven Nursing Home as a Med Tech.
Roberta was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Only an emergency would pull her away from watching one of their games. She could always report scores, and what Yadi and Carpenter and the rest were doing. More than the Cardinals, she loved her family. Each grandchild has a favorite food that Grams cooked for them. She babysat many of them while their parents worked. At each meal, she cooked one thing that each child would eat. Many times she made potato soup or mashed potatoes and green beans for someone, even when it wasn't meal time. Jarrod always brought his own to-go containers for Gram's leftovers.
She was loving and kind to her family but still firm. Many grandkids remember the green time-out chair. She loved spending time with family and everyone was always welcome in her home. She will be missed greatly.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Tracy Archibald officiating. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 am.
