Fern Woodsmall, 90, of Paragould, passed from this life on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at The Green House Cottages of Belle Meade. She was born on January 20, 1932, to the late Dawson and Della Jackson. Fern was a cosmetologist her entire life. She married Rudolph "Rudy" Woodsmall, and they built a lasting love through 68 years of marriage. Fern enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She was very athletic and had a love for sports. She played fast-pitch softball, golf, and bowling. She once scored a perfect game in bowling: 300. Fern was active in Senior Olympics and was quite the competitor. She also loved to travel. If someone said, "Go!", she was ready to hit the road. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Vance, Zan, and Gene Finley and R.D. Jackson; sisters, Zelma Keith, Charlene Wells, and Nadine Weir; brothers-in-law, Sidney Woodsmall and Gene Gathright, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Dorothy Foss.
Fern is survived by her children, Gina (Bob) Kerls of Des Peres, Missouri, and Gary "Woody" (Nora) Woodsmall of Paragould; grandchildren, Chad (Ashley) Kerls of Wentzville, Missouri, Matt (Laura) Kerls of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Kelly (Patrick) Lenderman of Paragould, Amy (Jon) Bach of Festus, Missouri, Angela (B.J.) Kirby of Jonesboro, and Tiffany (Markus) Curtis of Paragould; great grandchildren, Zeke Bach, Breanna Curtis, Ryleigh Lenderman, Michael Kerls, Walker Bach, Brenden Kerls, Baylee Curtis, Amelia Kirby, Benjamin Kerls, Reagan Kerls, Della Bach, Kynsleigh Lenderman, Eli McClelland, Brooks Bach, and Everleigh Lenderman; sister, Claudine Sparks of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Norma Gathright of Monette; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 9:30-11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lafe. The funeral begins at 11 AM with Pastor Aaron Neugebauer officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Chad Kerls, Matt Kerls, B.J. Kirby, Patrick Lenderman, Jon Bach and Markus Curtis. Memorials may be sent to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
