Ethel Mae Mccollum (Coln)

October 31, 1927 — September 28, 2016

Ethel Mae Fisher McCollum (Coln), 88, of Paragould, passed away on Wednesday in Belle Meade. She was born in Girdletree, Maryland, graduated high school in Pocomoke City, Maryland in 1946, and attended Southern Baptist College, now Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, from 1946-1948. Ethel was a substitute teacher at Oak Grove School for many years. She then worked for Sterling's, Alco, and C&M Jewelry as a clerk. During her later years, she worked at Arkansas Methodist Hospital assisting patients as they entered the Emergency Room Department. She worked until she reached her early 80's. Ethel was a member of First Baptist Church for many years. She married John Jackson McCollum on June 1, 1947 in Walnut Ridge. They were married for 33 years before his death on July 18, 1980. On June 20, 1982, she married Orval Coln. Mr. Coln died eleven years later on December 10, 1993. Ethel was the daughter of the late Norwood and Ellen Mae Sturgis Fisher and Amelia Fisher Smith. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin Fisher and Billy Fisher, and her sister, Anna Fisher Hope, all of Pocomoke City, Maryland.

Survivors include her children, Janice Eugenia McCollum Morrow of Doniphan, Missouri and John Waldon McCollum of Paragould; grandson, Robert (Bob) Jay Morrow and wife, Sherry, of Doniphan; great grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Shayne Talburt and Dalton, Micah, and Spencer Morrow, all of Doniphan; great great grandchildren, Braidy and Landry Talburt of Doniphan; brothers, Jimmy Hurley of Pocomoke City and Tommy Fisher of Fruitland, Maryland; and sister, Mary Frances Lewis of Pocomoke City.

Visitation is Saturday morning at 10 am at Heath Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Gene Wright officiating. The funeral begins at 11 am. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
