Eloise Ann Barner Coleman, 79, of Southaven, MS passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital -DeSoto in Southaven, MS after a brief illness related to complications from strokes in 2015 and 2020.She was born on May 8, 1943 at the Lafe Hospital in Lafe, AR, the eldest daughter of the late Henry Edward “Pinky” Barner and Elva Lorene Morgan Barner. She was the grandchild of the late Oscar Henry and Othelia Emma Laurette Haas Barner and the late Luther and Lizzie Adele Hayes Morgan.
Raised in Lafe, AR she attended Lafe High School where she was involved with 4-H, acted in stage productions, played varsity basketball, and graduated with Honors in May 1961. She next graduated from the Memphis School of Commerce in Memphis, TN in April 1962. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, she was blessed with an active life as a homemaker, real estate broker, high school substitute teacher, competitive ballroom dancer, and long-time legal secretary. She retired after 19 years of service in 2015 from Martin, Tate, Morrow & Marson, PC in Memphis, TN. She served her Lord during her teenage years as organist for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lafe, AR, and at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Paragould, AR, and for over 25 years as organist at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Southaven, MS. She served her community as a Director of the Board for the Desoto Sunrise Homes, and once even campaigned for Justice Court Judge in DeSoto County, MS.
She was united in marriage to Ronald Coleman, of Oil Trough, AR on May 19, 1962 in Florence, AL, for 25 years until his passing on July 3, 1987. She was also preceded in death by their infant son, Gordon Edward, her parents, and her younger brother, Terry D. Barner of Lafe, AR.She is survived by her son, Stephen G.H. Coleman and his wife, Rochelle of Nesbit, MS; grandsons Stephen Chance Coleman and Nathaniel Cade Coleman, both of Nesbit, MS; a sister, Sherry (Rick) Barnett of Sapulpa, OK; sister-in-law Maria Barner of Marmaduke, AR; and six nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at S. John’s Lutheran Church in Lafe, AR. The celebration of life service will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day with Rev Aaron Nuegebauer officiating. Internment will follow immediately at Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould, AR.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chance and Cade Coleman, nephews Rick Barnett Jr., Jamie Barnett, Michael Barnett, and Tracy Garner. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the numerous healthcare providers and nursing home staff who provided compassionate care for our beloved Eloise.
