Dr. Asa Andrew Crow died September 5, 2017 in Jonesboro. He was born on January 26, 1929, in Marion County, Alabama, the youngest of nine children to the late Susan Mitchell Crow and Abraham B. Crow.
Asa’s mother died when he was nine years old, and he was raised by his widowed father and his older siblings. After the family relocated to Cardwell, Missouri, he graduated from Cardwell High School in 1948.
Asa was an United States Army veteran serving as a member of the Occupation Forces of Japan and then Korea during the Korean War. After being discharged as a Sergeant, Asa attended Arkansas State University and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity serving as president.
He then attended the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock graduating in 1961 serving as president of his senior class.
Asa practiced medicine in Paragould, Arkansas for over 50 years. He was beloved by his patients and all who knew him. He gave tirelessly of his time and services to the people of Paragould and Arkansas. In addition, he was very active in the medical community. He served as president of the State Medical Society, president of the Arkansas Medical School Alumni Association, president of the Greene County Medical Society, Chief of Staff of the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, and served on the State Medical Board and many other boards and commissions appointed by various Governors of Arkansas.
Asa married the former Wanda Barnes of Caruthersville, Missouri in 1956. They had three children, Denise, Susan and Gregory. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Denise, when she was 20. He was also predeceased by his eight siblings.
Asa is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Susan (Joe) Mayhan and their children, Asa Andrew Mayhan, Max Mayhan and Emma Mayhan all of Nashville, Tennessee; and son, Gregory (Kim) Crow of Conway, Arkansas and their sons Dustin (Leanna) Crow of Springdale, Arkansas and Kaleb Crow of Conway, Arkansas.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Friday September 8th at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service. His ashes will be interned at Memorial Gardens in Paragould next to his daughter Denise.
