Donald Wayne Norwood, 78, of Stanford, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born in Stanford, Arkansas on November 19, 1942 to the late Gus and Gladys Webb Norwood.
Donald attended Stanford school from first grade until the family moved to Beech Grove. He then attended Beech Grove until it consolidated with Greene County Tech. Donald graduated high school from GCT and then joined the Army. He served at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas before joining the Army Reserves. Donald married his wife, Shirley Adams Norwood, of fifty-three years, during her military service in Washington D.C. When her service was completed, they moved back to Stanford, Arkansas where he began farming.
Donald was honored to serve on the Farm Credit Midsouth board, Greene County Farm Bureau board, and the Stanford school board. He was a member of the Commissary Church of Christ. You could always find Donald working, fixing something or cracking pecans, which were his favorite things to do.
Donald is preceded in death by his, parents; wife, Shirley Adams Norwood; brother, Wendell Norwood; and sisters, Loretta Bruner, Shirley Morgan, Genola Norwood, and Emma Lou Felty.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Don and Wendy Norwood, of Beech Grove, and Jeremy and Kim Norwood, of Stanford; grandchildren, Chelsea Cox (Cody), of Paragould, Larianna Norwood, of Stanford, Jordan Norwood and Taylor Norwood, of Beech Grove; sister, Reba Smith, of Paragould; sister-in-law, Joan Norwood, of Paragould; brother-in-law, Butch Bruner, of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Heath Colonial Chapel on Sunday with Evan Smith and Art Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Duane Norwood, Gary Felty, Danny Felty, Shane Henson, Stacy Rice, and Ronnie Rawls will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are past and present board members of Farm Credit Midsouth.
