Dallas Carlyle Wood

November 22, 1937 — September 23, 2015

Dallas C. Wood of Paragould, AR passed away on 23 September, 2015 at the age of 77. Dallas grew up in Greene County Arkansas, and is a graduate of Oak Grove High School.
He was the first person to enlist in the new National Guard Unit in Paragould at the age of 17. He graduated from ASU receiving a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree. He later was appointed to the ASU Board of Trustees and proudly served from 2001-2008. While at ASU, he joined the ROTC. He entered the Army in 1960 where he spent the next 20 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. During his military service he received the Bronze Star for combat services as a Company Commander in Vietnam in 1966-1967. He also served in Germany, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
Dallas began his real estate career in the Washington D.C. area. He was selected as top salesman worldwide with RE MAX. His real estate clients included Retired General Colin Powell and Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf. Dallas returned to Greene County in 1996 and continued his real estate career. He was also very active in the Republican Party. In 2000-2001 he served as Vice Chairman Stateside for all of Governor Huckabee’s Board Commission Appointments.
Dallas also enjoyed riding, breeding, raising, and showing Tennessee Walking horses and Spotted Saddle horses. His favorite pastime was visiting with people.
Dallas is survived by former wife, Irene Wood, of Alexandria, Virginia, his daughter Melanie Barry and her husband Phil, of Burke Virginia, their children Kyle, Philip, and Ellie, and his son, Ralph C. Wood and his wife Laura, of Paragould Arkansas, and their daughter Samantha. In addition, there are two surviving sisters, Clarice Cox and her husband Winfred, of Fayetteville, AR, and Carolyn Pugh and her husband Kenneth of Paragould, AR. Dallas is also survived by former wife Kay Ellis, of Thayer, Missouri.
Visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home, 321 W. Garland, Paragould, AR 72450 on 27th of September, Sunday 6 - 8pm. Services to be on 28 September at 1:30 at Heath Colonial Chapel with Revs. Bart Baker and Eddie Gene Wright officiating.Burial with Military honors will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Paragould, AR. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, In Care Of Kenneth Pugh, 5156 Hwy 135 North, Paragould, AR 72450 or the Wounded Warrior Project.
