Clarence David Cupp, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed from this life at the age of 87 on April 7, 2024, in Paragould, AR. Born in Bard on September 6, 1936, to the late Jim and Juanita Cooley Cupp, David lived a life full of diverse experiences and pursuits. He married his bride, Meryl Hodge, on January 1, 1981. They moved to Colorado where they spent a majority of their wedded years together.
David had a rich and varied career, working in construction, teaching and coaching basketball in Alexander, farming strawberries, and delving into real estate in Colorado. A man of faith, David later found fulfillment as the manager of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, imparting his wisdom and compassion to all those he encountered.
His service in the United States Air Force stationed in Hawaii spoke to his dedication to his country and his willingness to serve with honor and integrity. His passion for building and woodwork manifested in the craftsmanship and care he poured into his projects throughout his life, leaving behind a lasting legacy of his creativity and skill.
Known for his love of attending Colorado Rockies baseball games, David found joy in simple pleasures and treasured moments spent with his family. His memory will be forever treasured by his devoted spouse, Meryl Cupp of Paragould; his loving children, Stuart (Julie Mitchell) Cupp of Overland Park, Kansas, JoAnn Shea of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jill (Mike) Bay of Fayetteville; his grandson, Matthew (Autumn) Mitchell-Cupp of Golden, Colorado; his granddaughters, Andra Cupp of Overland Park, Alison (Kevin Ware) Shea of Denver, Emma Shea of Denver, Maisie Bay of Fayetteville, and Halsey Bay of Kentucky; his great-grandson, Tommy Mitchell-Cupp of Golden; and siblings, Patsy Biermann of Fayetteville, Larry (Kathy) Cupp of Paragould, and Mary Beth Chipman of Paragould; several nephews and nieces, as well as many others whose lives he touched.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Paragould on April 26, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Revs. Dane Womack and Sarah Ellzey officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In honoring his memory and the impact he had on all who knew him, let us come together to remember and reflect upon the legacy of a truly remarkable man. Clarence David Cupp will forever be remembered for his kindness, his wisdom, and the love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply cherished and will never be forgotten.
