Bobby Albert Coates, 86, a cherished member of the Harvest, Alabama community, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on October 6, 1938, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Bobby was a devoted husband, accomplished electrical engineer, and a devout Baptist, whose life demonstrated love, dedication, and faith.
Bobby graduated from Toccopola High School in Mississippi in 1955, then went to Ole Miss, earning his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1966, followed by a Master of Engineering Science. His illustrious 25-year career showcased his expertise and passion for his work.
Outside of work, Bobby was a gifted piano player and singer. He also loved fishing, playing golf, and enjoyed hours playing Bridge and other card games, highlighting his competitive spirit and strategic mind. These hobbies brought him joy and built lasting memories with friends and family.
In 1957, Bobby married the love of his life, Perry LoNella Blankenship. They shared 65 beautiful years together of love, companionship, and travel throughout the U.S. and abroad until her passing on June 2, 2022. Their marriage was a true testament to enduring love and partnership, in both joyful as well as trying times.
Bobby also served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army. Along with his strong faith in the Lord throughout his life, Bobby embodied the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice for his family, his country, and God.
Bobby is survived by his sister, Kelcy (Jerry) Whitten of Pontotoc; nephews, Lane (Bonnie) Coates and Jeffrey (Julie) Reyburn; and nieces, Sandy (Barry) McClure, Lisa (Jeff) Burgess, Lori (Fred) Counce, Gina Dobbs, and Elisabeth (Brent) Smith. He was preceded in death by his beloved bride LoNella Blankenship Coates; his parents, Percy and Dorothy (Fooshee) Coats, and his brother, Keith Coates.
To honor Bobby's remarkable life of gentle kindness and faithful love, the family will gather at noon at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould, Arkansas, on November 23, 2024. They will leave together at 12:45 for the graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
