Betty Hicks

It is with loving memories that we announce the passing of Betty Hicks, 93, on Monday, February 10, 2025. Born on March 17, 1931, in Beech Grove, Betty was a beacon of strength and faith throughout her life. She graduated as Valedictorian from Beech Grove High School in 1948, a testament to her dedication and excellence from a young age.

On March 28, 1948, Betty married the love of her life, Jay Will Hicks, Sr. Together, they shared an enduring bond filled with love and devotion until his passing on March 28, 2016, their 68th anniversary. Betty's primary purpose in life was to serve God, and she did so with unwavering commitment as a faithful member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church. For many years, she led the Women on Mission (formerly WMU), actively participating in mission trips to Guatemala and Mexico, spreading the message of love and compassion.

Betty had a multitude of passions. She took great joy in cultivating a beautiful flower garden, playing games with family and friends, and cooking delicious meals for those she loved. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, creating cherished memories along the way. Known for her love of getting her hair done and maintaining a tidy home, she exemplified grace and attentiveness in all aspects of her daily life.

Professionally, she worked at Sears for 21 years and devoted many years to being a homemaker and a farmer's wife, contributing significantly to the family's success and happiness.

Betty is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Marcia (David) Hibbard of Pocahontas; sons, Terry (Samira) Hicks of St. Louis and Rev. Jay Will, Jr. (Kim) Hicks of Beech Grove; grandsons, Terry (Kim) Hicks, Levi (Ashley) Hicks, Lee (Becca) Hibbard, and Daniel Braik; granddaughter, Serena Hibbard; great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Mattie, Easton, Madi, Eli, Kamden, Daniel, David, Cain, Ben, and Gabe; and great-great grandchildren, Lilly and CJ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virgie Davidson; husband, Jay Will Hicks, Sr.; and granddaughter, Kymberlee Jae (KJ) Hicks.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in her honor at 10 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025, with Rev. Jay Will Hicks, Jr. and Terry Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Lonnie Holloway, Nathan Harbarugh, Bryton Joiner, Ken Jackson, Marty Needham, and Randy Joiner. Honorary Pallbearers are James Needham, Charles Taylor, and Stan Hunt.

Betty Hicks lived a life filled with purpose, love, and faith. As we gather to celebrate her remarkable journey, we will remember her warmth, compassion, and joyous spirit, keeping her legacy alive in our hearts forever.
