Bertis Joy Sanford

May 2, 1937 — October 30, 2018

Bertis Joy Sanford, 81, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Marmaduke, and retired from McArthur Junior High Cafeteria Manager after 35 years. Bertis was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and loved to read, cook, take walks and play with her grandchildren. Bertis was the daughter of the late Paul and Linie Brewer Tyner. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brenton Dooley and two sisters, Ethyl Merrell and Freda Jolly.

Survivors included her husband of 62 years, Elmer Sanford of the home; daughters, Angela (Keith) Dooley and Joyce (Jimmy) Philamlee of Jonesboro; son, Jeff (Donna) Sanford of Jonesboro; brother, Sterling Tyner of Poplar Bluff, MO; sister, Deborah Gleich of Corinth, MS; grandchildren, Kristen Cannon, Whitney Philamlee, Amy Flores and Emily Philamlee and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 - 8 pm at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10 am in the chapel with Revs. Jerry Jolly and Andy Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke. Pallbearers are Paul Ashcraft, Paul King, Michael Flores, Jimmy Philamlee, Keith Dooley and Terry Jolly.

Lasting memorials are asked to consider Temple Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
