Barbara Sue McBroom, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this life on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 25, 1943, in Paragould, Sue led a life filled with love, dedication, and passion for her family and interests.
Sue married the love of her life, Jake McBroom, on May 8, 1969. Together they built a life rich in memories and warmth. In her early career, Sue exemplified both diligence and diverse talent. She began working at the local shoe factory and later at Emerson Electric. Her family's journey took her to Mississippi and Kentucky, where she devoted her time to banking and also had a stint as a school bus driver. Eventually, Sue returned to her roots in Paragould, embracing her role as a devoted housewife and caregiver.
A woman of many interests, Sue found great joy in cross stitching and dedicated countless hours to her craft. She possessed a remarkable love for literature, especially mystery novels, filling her computer with an extensive library that reflected her boundless curiosity and imagination. In her younger years, she enjoyed trips to Tunica, creating lasting memories during those adventures.
Her faith was paramount in her life. Sue was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church, where her spirit and commitment to her faith were an inspiration to many.
Sue is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jake McBroom; daughters, Shelly (Charles) Griffith of Abington, Virginia and Tonya Thompson of Paragould; son, Barry (Kacey) McBroom of Oak Grove; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren (and three on the way); and her precious fur babies, Sophie and Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Commie Pickens; brothers, Bob Pickens and Jim Pickens; and sisters, Mathel Symons, Wilma Buchanan, Eva Miller, and Connie Baldwin.
A private burial will take place where immediate family will gather to remember Sue's life and legacy. In this time of mourning, we invite all who knew and loved Sue to remember her with warmth and gratitude for the light she brought into our lives.
She will be dearly missed but will always remain in our hearts.
