Alfred George Herget, Jr., 100, of Paragould, passed away Sunday at his residence. Alfred was the son of the late Alfred George Herget, Sr. and Mabel Jackson Herget. He was a graduate of Paragould High School and Texas A & M University. Alfred served in the United States Marine Corps and was a World War II veteran. He was the owner of the Ford & Herget Insurance Agency. Alfred has served as a president for the Paragould Chamber of Commerce and The Paragould Rotary Club. He enjoyed golfing, once having eleven holes in one, and was an instrumental piece in starting The Paragould Country Club. Alfred was also an avid Razorback fan. He attended the First United Methodist Church and was the oldest living member.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Wood Herget; brother, Phil Herget and sister, Mary Cochrane.
Survivors include his three daughters, Janet (Ben) Hyneman of Jonesboro, Susan (George) Smith of Oxford, Mississippi, and Sarah (Keith) Mills of Rogers; sister, Ann Kelly; sisters-in-law, Martha Morgan and Mary Brinton; nine grandchildren, Brian (Ginger) Hyneman, Matt (Mary) Hyneman, Lindsey (Landon) Myers, Ginny (Tim) Kelly, Ryan Smith, Jackson Franke, Kathryn Franke, Parker Mills, Madison Mills; ten great-grandchildren, Josh, Alex and Taylor Hyneman, Hannah, Ben, and Grace Hyneman, Keller and Cannon Myers and Jack and Cannon Kelly; many nieces and nephews and all our wonderful caregivers.
